Triboro Is No More

http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2008/02/13/news/news3.txt

is the article I found this morning. The article pretty much states the building was torn down due to vandalists on the outside and Urban Explorers on the inside. Abandoned Dreams explored this location back when we first started as a group. We entered through the roof leaving no chance for the vandals to use our entrance. The plan worked and the inside saw very little damage by man. Natural damage on the other hand took the place down hard. Well, now it's gone. I've yet to find any other website aside from the Abandoned Dreams 06 and 07 websites that have interiors from Triboro. http://ade.1hwy.com/photo_7.html and http://ade07.blogspot.com/2007/05/in-case-you-missed-itretail-and_30.html All the images refferred to in the article can be seen on these pages. I'm feeling like kind of a dick for getting such a nice location torn down, but whatever. Just thought I'd share. I went down to the location a few minutes after I read the article off Google only to find a slab of dirt on which the building would have once stood. Sad. Heres the only two shots I bothered to take.

I just found this short clip of Triboros demolition online and thought I'd share it. I did not take this video.

Incinerate Yourself- 2/11/08

Turrel and I were out doing some scouting the other day when we stumbled upon this. Heres a bit of history I dug up:
The ------ Incinerator Residue Landfill (property) is located along ----Avenue in -----, Rhode Island. The 13.5-acre landfill area is owned by the City of ------while a small portion of the property is privately owned. The property is bordered by ----- Avenue to the north, Saint ---- Cemetery and a small drainage channel to the south, ----- River to the east, and a city park to the west. The property consists of a municipal refuse transfer station, an inactive solid waste incinerator, and an incinerator residue landfill. Beginning in 1964, ------- owned and operated the incinerator and disposed of the residue material on site. During its operational period, the incinerator was found to be in violation of State solid waste regulations, and was required to discontinue operations in 1977 due to non-compliance/unlicensed operation. Ultimately, in 1979, a license for incinerator operation and landfill operation was granted by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM). The facility remained in operation until 1983.A Preliminary Assessment was completed in September 1989, followed by a Site Inspection (SI) that was completed in 1993. Miscellaneous debris, including scrap metal, municipal solid waste, full and empty 55-gallon drums, auto fluff, construction debris, and junked vehicles, were observed during on-site reconnaissances conducted at the property. In addition, areas of exposed incinerator residue were also observed. No soil/source samples associated with this property are known to have been collected.
We walked around for a few, ignoring the "monitered by camera" signs and then made our move. We went in and walked around for a few before I noticed a red light off in the distance. I told Turrel to stop moving and the light went off. As soon as I pointed to the place where the light was, it turned back on and we bolted. I know nothing about motion detectors so I assumed it was. We waited out by the dump portion of the building for like half hour and no one showed up. We were short on time so we decided to come back another time. Anyways, now that your bored, heres a few shots.

Night Life

I wanted to head out and photograph the fog one night, but by the time I dragged my lazy ass out of bed the fog had lifted. I walked around anyways and this is what I came home with. Taken over a span of three nights. Blah
